Once again

Nablus, Occupied Palestine Wednesday, February 28, 2007 The Israeli Occupation Forces reinvaded Nablus city for the second time in less than 48 hours. Tens of armored personnel carriers and bulldozers spread all over the city and special forces have occupied several buildings in different neighborhoods in and around the old city. The Israeli army arrested members of families of wanted Palestinian fighters in an attempt to pressure them to surrender. Soldiers are conducting house to house searches in the old city terrorizing the civilian population and destroying property. Sounds of explosions are heard inside the old city and in neighborhoods surrounding it. The Israeli army is interrupting the local radio and TV broadcasts and using the same frequencies to announce communiqués to the residents of Nablus that include the names of the wanted Palestinian fighters and instructing people not to give assistance to them. An-Najah National University and all schools have been closed and students were instructed to remain in their homes fearing for their lives. The Israeli Army has also surrounded the local Palestinian hospitals searching everyone who comes in and out and interfering in the movement of ambulances. Palestinian children are throwing stones on the Israeli armored vehicles as they pass in the streets and Israeli soldiers are firing on them with rubber-coated metal bullets and with live ammunition and tear gas. Palestinian politicians are saying that Israel is trying to destroy any prospects for a peaceful resolution to the conflict by sabotaging the formation of Palestinian National Unity Government. The security situation in Nablus is deteriorating very fast and residents are fearing that this operation will result in a large number of civilian casualties. Palestinian civil society organizations in Nablus have issued a call to the International Community to intervene to stop the Israeli campaign of terror and onslaught against the city of Nablus.
